Strike of St. Lawrence Seaway Workers Will Interrupt One of Canada’s Key Transportation Arteries.

The St. Lawrence Seaway supports more than 66,000 Canadian jobs and is responsible for $34 million in economic activity per day. Any work stoppage damages the Canadian economy, fanning inflation and increasing costs for Canadians.

The Seaway’s workers went on strike as of midnight Sunday; we had hoped for a resolution to avoid this latest disruption to Canada’s transportation and supply chain.

In a letter to the federal government, we expressed our concern regarding the strike shutting down transit through the St. Lawrence Seaway, causing further damage our supply chains.

The intent of the project is to modernize and simplify how employers report payroll, employment and demographic information to the Government of Canada.

A report on the consultations held for this project is now available. The CRA and ESDC plan to consider the input received during the consultations when preparing a proposal for a future real-time ePayroll system.
