Stewart Muir is an award-winning journalist, a historian, and the visionary founder and CEO of Resource Works, dedicated to illuminating the intricate balance between natural resource development and environmental stewardship. His expertise in resource management and the socio-economic dimensions of industry has positioned him as a thought leader in understanding the nuanced narratives that shape economic and natural landscapes, with a particular focus on Canada. Stewart’s commitment to land conservancy was highlighted in his voluntary leadership at The Nature Trust of British Columbia. In recent years, his focus has shifted towards the critical issues of energy security in BC, analyzing the wide-ranging impacts of major energy projects on the local economy. He is also a successful entrepreneur, in 2021 launching Tersa Earth Innovations Inc. and developing a breakthrough platform technology for water treatment. Through his leadership at Resource Works, Stewart Muir is committed to fostering a prosperous, fair, and open society, leveraging his personal brand to champion innovation, climate solutions, and the sustainable use of natural resources, all while building expert teams to navigate the challenges and opportunities of resource management for the betterment of Canadians and the global community.

Linda Coady is President and CEO of the BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI. COFI is an industry association that represents forest companies in BC that produce wood for construction, pulp and paper, and bioenergy. The forest industry is foundational to many regional economies in BC and COFI members are committed to advancing sustainable forest management and Indigenous rights and reconciliation.

Prior to joining COFI, Linda was the Executive Director of the Alberta-based Pembina Institute, a leading Canadian environmental think tank on climate and energy issues. Her previous roles have also included Chief Sustainability Officer for Enbridge Inc., Vice-President of Sustainability for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Vice-President of the Pacific Region for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada, and Vice-President of Environmental Affairs for the BC Coastal Group of Weyerhaeuser Canada and MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.

Linda has been a Distinguished Fellow at the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and has taught corporate sustainability at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. She has also served on advisory bodies to different levels of government and was most recently a member of Canada’s Net-Zero Advisory Body, which provides independent advice to the federal government on meeting requirements under Canada’s Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act.

PANELIST

John is Nehinaw (Cree)-Metis from Kaministikominahikoskak (Cumberland House), Saskatchewan. He has a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan. He started his career in 2001 in the mining industry and worked in a variety of roles including environment and safety, maintenance, and reliability engineering management until moving into executive leadership in economic development, construction and management consulting. John now serves as the Executive Director of the Indigenous Resource Network as well as Past President of APEGS. He also has extensive regulatory, volunteer, governance and civil society experience serving on a variety of boards, committees and other initiatives culminating into several awards over his career recognizing his civil service and servant leadership.

As President & Chief Executive Officer, Jon is responsible for the strategic direction of the company and delivering strong financial, operational and sustainability performance. Jon took on this leadership role in April 2023. He is also a Director of the company.

Jon has more than 30 years of finance and operations experience, mostly in the Canadian oil and gas industry. He has been at Cenovus since 2018, serving first as Executive Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer and most recently as the Executive Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer. Jon was an integral part of the 2021 strategic combination with Husky Energy, having served as the Chief Financial Officer at both Cenovus and Husky. Jon also worked at Irving Oil as its CFO and Chief Commercial Officer, with responsibility for all supply, trading and commercial aspects of the company including coordinating business development projects involving pipelines, rail and terminal operations. Prior to that, Jon worked at Suncor for 10 years where he held increasingly senior roles in finance and operations, including operating responsibility for the company’s upgrader in Fort McMurray.

Jon currently serves on the board of Irving Oil and is also Vice Chair of the Board of Governors at the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP).

He is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. Jon holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Alberta.

Jonathan Price was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Teck on November 1, 2023, and has been a member of Teck’s Board of Directors since July 26, 2022.

Previously, Mr. Price was Chief Executive Officer, having been appointed to that role in September 2022. He has also held the roles of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Price joined Teck in October 2020 and brings extensive experience in the resources sector through a variety of finance, commercial and business development roles spanning Europe, Asia and Australia, with a focus on strategy, transformational change and business improvement.

Prior to joining Teck, Mr. Price was employed by BHP from 2006 to 2020 where he was Chief Transformation Officer, Vice President Finance and Vice President Investor Relations working in Asia, Australia and the UK. He has also worked in the Metals and Mining team at ABN AMRO Bank and held various production and technical roles with INCO.

Mr. Price holds a Master of Engineering (Honours) in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Oxford and a Master of Business Administration from Cardiff University.
